The Board of Visitors headed by Collector Grace Pachuau inspected the Perambalur sub-jail on Friday to ascertain the first-hand basic facilities, security and other aspects.
The Collector was accompanied by the Superintendent of Police, Perambalur Adarsh Pachera and other members of the board.
The Collector and the Superintendent of Police interacted with the prisoners ascertaining from them whether food and drinking water provided to them were as per standards and also whether counselling was being provided to them properly.
They went through the records containing information about the number of prisoners, jail staff, cook and other employees. They inspected the records room and the kitchen and tasted the food prepared to ascertain its standard. They also ascertained if the food to the prisoners was being provided as per the schedule specified by the government.
The Collector had a discussion with the members of the Board and ascertained their views besides about the legal advice being given through the legal aid centre, an official release said.
