The driver of the LPG tanker of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) that developed a leak after skidding and falling to its side on the Avinashi Road old flyover in Coimbatore city on Friday (January 3, 2025) morning was arrested by the police for negligent driving late in the night.

The leakage was blocked after a 11-hour operation and the lorry was taken to the Bharat Petroleum plant.

The Coimbatore West Traffic Investigation Police determined carelessness of the lorry driver Radhakrishnan as the reason for the accident, and registered a case against him under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — 281 (dangerous driving), 110 (driving in a manner likely to cause death), and 324(4) (speeding).
He was also booked under relevant sections of the Explosives Act, Petroleum Act, Environment Act, and the Motor Safety Act.
