The current strength of the Bihar Cabinet is 30 in which BJP has 15 Ministers including two Deputy Chief Ministers, whereas JD (U) has 13 Ministers and one from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and an Independent minister as Sumit Kumar Singh. Bihar Cabinet can have maximum 36 Ministers.
The NDA government’s Cabinet was last expanded on March 15, 2024 when 21 Ministers — nine from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and 12 from ally BJP were inducted. It was 46 days after Mr. Kumar went back with the BJP on January 28, 2024 after severing ties with mahagathbandhan (grand alliance), of which Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was a part. It was his fifth political volte-face in the last decade to remain glued to power.
At present, there are 15 Ministers from the BJP, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.
