Car festival of Boothalingaswamy temple celebrated

Devotees celebrate car festival at Sri Boothalingaswamy temple in Kanniyakumari with grand procession and special pujas.
Hundreds of devotees participated in the car festival of Sri Boothalingaswamy temple at Boothapandi in Kanniyakumari district.
The 10-day festival began with flag hoisting on February 2. On the 9th day of the festival, the devotees drew the decorated car along the four ‘Ther Veedhi’ of the village. The presiding deities, Boothalingaswamy, Sivakami Ambal and Vinayakar, were taken in procession.
Earlier, special pujas and abhishekam were performed to the deities. A large number of people from nearby villages and across the district took part in the event. As one of the heaviest temple cars of southern Tamil Nadu, the car procession, which began at 9:45 a.m. concluded when the ‘ther’ returned to its base around 5:30 p.m. Theppam on the 10th day marks the end of festival.
The Boothapandi town panchayat installed mobile toilets, drinking water facility and health care services for the people.
