Three escape unharmed after car fire near Chittoor bus stand in Vellore; electrical short circuit suspected.
Three persons escaped unhurt after the car they were travelling in caught fire, near Chittoor bus stand at Katpadi in Vellore on Chittoor - Cuddalore Highway on Wednesday.
The police said that K. Sridhar, 38, of Tiruvallur, was travelling with his family. They were going to a homeopathic clinic near Katpadi for treatment of his mother K. Varalakshmi, 68, when Sridhar noticed smoke coming out from the bonnet of the car. They immediately got off the car. The incident happened at 8.30 a.m.
Before firefighters from Katpadi doused the fire, the car was completely gutted. Rescued persons were sent to Government Medical College Hospital for medical checkup.
Police removed the damaged car along the highway to clear the route for traffic, which was affected for nearly an hour. Police said electrical short circuit might be the reason for the accident. A case was registered by Katpadi police. A probe is underway.
