Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta on Saturday, February 1, termed the Union Budget 2025 as a comprehensive, compassionate one that will fuel aspirations, empower dreams and make Bharat even more conducive for growth.
Capt. Chowta in a statement said the Budget would boost the rise of aspirational India, with a host of measures announced to aid ease of living, foster entrepreneurship as well as incentivising investment. “Coming from a middle class home representing a tier-2 city, I thank our government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this enabler of a Budget.”
He said the most applauded part of the Budget, which has brought a smile on faces across Bharat, was increasing the Nil tax slab to ₹12 lakh. . “Our government has always stood by the middle class & its aspirations, and recognised its contribution to the nation building,“ he added.
Capt. Chowta said for a middle class house, a saving of ₹80,000 tax per person could have a huge impact. The measure would also ensure the money flows back into the economy as greater consumption power, investment capital and improved standard of living.
The MP said the Budget offers many avenues to be explored for development from Mangaluru’s point of view, including reinstating its position in the shipbuilding landscape of the country. “I am keen to follow up and ensure we get the benefits offered to Shipbuilding Clusters and the Maritime Development Fund that will be setup with a corpus of ₹25,000 crore.”
Capt. Chowta said MSMEs and start-ups in the region could benefit from the budget announcements to the sector. A national Framework for promoting Global Capability Centres in emerging tier-2 cities was a great news as he had already written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking a GCC in Mangaluru.
The MP urged the State government to make the best of the ₹1.5 lakh crore interest-free loan repayable in 50 years to States for infrastructure development. He would pursue the offer to avail the required funds for the infrastructural development of the region.
