BLACKPINK’s Lisa to make history as first K-pop artist to perform at Oscars, joining artists RAYE and Doja Cat.
BLACKPINK’s Lisa is set to make history as the first K-pop artist to perform at the Academy Awards. The singer will take the stage at the 97th Oscars, joining a lineup of global artists, including Doja Cat and RAYE.
The Academy announced the news on social media, calling it “one epic #Oscars moment.” Lisa is expected to perform Born Again, her newly released song, alongside Doja Cat and RAYE, marking the track’s first live performance. The song was pre-released on February 7 as part of her upcoming first full-length album, ALTER EGO.
The Oscars ceremony will also feature performances from Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, as well as a special appearance by the Los Angeles Master Chorale. While it remains unclear which Wicked songs will be performed, the Academy has promised “showstopping performances celebrating the filmmaking community and some of its legends.”
Lisa’s participation comes amid a shift in the Oscars’ approach to live music performances. Earlier this year, the Academy announced plans to move away from performances of Oscar-nominated songs, instead focusing on the backstories of the nominated songwriters. However, the inclusion of Lisa and other artists has sparked discussion about the selection of non-nominated songs for the telecast.
Lisa currently stars in the new season of HBO’s The White Lotus, with new episodes streaming weekly. The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live on March 2
