Bihar BJP State President Dilip Kumar Jaiswal resigns from Cabinet ahead of likely expansion in Bihar.
Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal who is also the Revenue and Land Reforms Department Minister on Wednesday (February 26, 2025) resigned from the Cabinet today. His resignation is part of the likely Cabinet expansion in Bihar.
“In BJP we have the principle of one man one post, so accordingly, I have decided to step down from the post of cabinet minister. Today I have given my resignation from the post of cabinet minister. I tried my level best to serve the department which I got and also thankful to the central leadership for giving me this opportunity, “Mr. Jaiswal told the media in Patna.
According to Raj Bhavan sources, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will expand his cabinet tomorrow by inducting six more ministers. Out of six, five are likely to be from BJP and one from Janata Dal-(United).
The current strength of the Bihar Cabinet is 30 in which BJP has 15 ministers including two Deputy Chief Ministers, whereas JD (U) has 13 Ministers and one from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and an Independent minister as Sumit Kumar Singh. Bihar Cabinet can have maximum 36 Ministers. Portfolios of some Ministers also expected to be reshuffled.
Sources said that during the closed -door meeting between Mr. Kumar and BJP President J.P. Nadda which was held on Tuesday (February 25, 2025), the issue of Cabinet expansion and the name were discussed. The names of the new ministers have now been handed over to the Bihar Chief Minister.
Senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary after holding the meeting with the senior leaders of the party at his residence today, went to meet Mr. Kumar at his official residence to further discuss the names of the probable ministers.
Cabinet expansion has come at the time when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Mr. Kumar will present its last budget on March 3 before the assembly election scheduled in October-November.
