Telangana BC Commission reviews objections and appeals on caste name changes, aims to uplift without cultural disruption.
The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes received more than 500 objections and appeals with regard to the notification issued for the change of names and addition of synonyms in respect of eight castes.
The Commission issued a notification seeking representations on January 3 giving 15 days for people and organisations to send suggestions and appeals. The deadline ended today.
In a statement, Chairman of the BC Commission G. Niranjan said that representatives of respective caste communities participated in large numbers and submitted their objections and appeals in the form of affidavits.
The Commission will examine these affidavits thoroughly and take a decision on the change of names of some castes, especially those that are considered derogatory in the society, without disturbing the culture of the castes of Telangana. He said that in future, students, youth and employees belonging to the respective castes will not be subjected to any feeling of inferiority.
Meanwhile, the respective castes have requested that the district restrictions be lifted in the matter of the ‘Bhunjwa’ caste and that the caste called ‘Dhangar’ in the combined Adilabad district, whose caste profession is sheep and goat rearing, be included in the BC list.
