AK-47 rifle, ammunitions found on road in Chennai

City police retrieve AK-47 rifle and ammunition found on road, belonging to CRPF, based on resident's alert in Tambaram.
An AK-47 rifle and ammunitions were retrieved from road by the city police based on an alert by a resident of Tambaram. The police later found that the rifle and ammunition belonged to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
On Monday (February 3, 2025) night K. Sivaraj, a resident of Tambaram, who was proceeding in his two-wheeler found an AK-47 rifle and a box containing 30 rounds of ammunition lying on the Mount Poonamallee Road near the MIOT Hospital signal in Ramapuram.
Immediately the 34-year-old informed the Ramapuram police station. Following this, a police team seized the bullets and during investigation it was found that the rifle and bullets belonged to CRPF personnel.
The rifle and ammunition had fallen from the vehicle which was carrying the security personnel from the Poonamallee battalion for deputation to the Raj Bhavan. The Ramapuram police handed over the rifle and the bullets to the CRPF personnel.
