Neolithic site in Nalgonda district reveals 4,000-year-old stone axe, highlighting ancient history and cultural heritage preservation efforts.
A neolithic archaeological site has been found in Nalgonda district, with the discovery of a 4,000-year-old black basalt polished stone axe dating back to the Neolithic period. The discovery was made by E. Sivanagireddy, Archaeologist and CEO of Pleach India Foundation, during a survey conducted on Saturday as part of the ‘Preserve Heritage for Posterity’ awareness programme.
The prehistoric stone tool, measuring 15 x 5 x 3 cm in length, width, and thickness, was found near Nagulakatta, located between the villages of Gundrampalli and Epur. According to Mr. Sivanagireddy, the discovery indicates that Gundrampalli was inhabited during the Neolithic period.
“Interestingly, the site also features five naga (serpent) sculptures belonging to the Kakatiya period. Heritage activist Amarnath Yadlapalli participated in the programme, which aims to promote awareness and preservation of India’s rich cultural heritage,” he added.
