As many as 93 students received certificates on completion of their respective courses at the 32nd graduation day of Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy which was held in the city on Thursday.
While 20 students completed their doctorate in pharmacy, seven completed M.Pharm, and 66 finished their degree courses in pharmacy.
Ashok S. Alur, Vice-Chancellor of Kodagu University, said in his graduation day address that the passing out graduates carry the aspirations of an entire nation on their shoulders.
He sought to remind the fresh graduates that they were among the brightest of the more than 260 million Indian youth. “If India must reap the demographic dividend, you (youth) must lead the way,” Dr. Alur said.
He said that after 75 years of Independence and development, the new aspiration was that India should strive to become a developed nation and described it as the second vision for the nation. He asked the graduates to introspect and question as to how they prepare themselves for this challenge.
“To become a developed country, India has to be economically and commercially powerful and be one of the three top nations in terms of the size of the economy,” Dr. Alur said.
He said there were five areas where India has a core competence for an integrated action, and this includes agriculture and food processing. “We have to set a target of 360 million tonnes of food and agricultural production. Other areas of agriculture and agro-food processing would bring prosperity to rural people and speed up economic growth,” Dr. Alur said.
