State government prioritising medical education, infrastructure upgrades and equipment at government hospitals, says Minister
Medical education and upgrading infrastructure and equipment at all government hospitals to provide better medical services to the poor are at the top of the State government priorities, said Minister for Health Satya Kumar Yadav after inaugurating cath labs at Government General Hospital in Ongole on Friday (April 11).
Minister for Social Welfare Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao and Prakasam District Collector A. Thameem Ansaria were also present. Mr. Satya Kumar reviewed the infrastructure and medical services provided at the GGH, interacted with the hospital officials and gave several suggestions and instructions to them.
Addressing a gathering, he said: “The State government provides medical services worth up to ₹25 lakh to the poor through Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva. Free cancer diagnostic tests are being conducted across the State.”
He also underlined the government’s focus on preventive medicine. 100-bed multi-speciality hospitals with all infrastructure facilities will be established in every constituency. “The government is paying special attention to teaching hospitals. Some surgeries that cannot be done in private hospitals are being performed in government hospitals,” he said.
Mr. Satya Kumar said the government is trying to convince people that treatment given at government hospitals is better than that at private hospitals. He said doctors should consider their job sacred and work with dedication in offering medical services to the people. Recent surgeries at the GGH highlight the skill of the government doctors, he said.
Dr. Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy said: “Steps are being taken to create necessary infrastructure in government hospitals. The doctors need to work efficiently so that people feel that they would get better treatment if they go to government hospitals.”
“Patients coming to government hospitals are from very poor families. If they are provided with better medical services, they will support their families financially. There is a need to improve sanitation and security services at Ongole GGH. The hospital superintendent should pay special attention to this,” he added.

The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered status quo till July 10 on the demolition notices issued by the Delhi Development Authority against seven residents of Okhla’s Batla House area. The court posted the matter for hearing on July 10, when the other petitions related to the demolitions in the area are also scheduled for hearing. The counsel for the petitioners argued that the DDA and the Delhi government had “indiscriminately targeted properties beyond the identified area and without issuance of individual notices”.
