NTR Police Commissionerate to install 10,000 CCTVs to prevent crimes, seize drugs, and enhance public safety.
The NTR Police Commissionerate is planning to install 10,000 Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) in its limits to prevent and detect crimes. The project is likely to be completed in the next six months.
Police cracked the whip on ganja and other drug peddlers in the NTR Police Commissionerate. Investigation officers seized 1,350 kgs of Marijuana (ganja), arrested 267 smugglers and opened 116 suspect sheets against the smugglers and peddlers this year, said Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu.
Giving the annual crime data for 2024 at a press conference on Monday, December 30, the Police Commissioner said 5,780 cases have been registered this year, which was 6,477 in 2023.
“Police registered 110 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 303 cybercrime cases, 1,207 road accident cases, 1,462 cases under crime against women and children and other cases were booked,” the Police Commissioner said.
“By the Sankranthi festival, we are planning to install about 1,000 surveillance cameras in the first phase. Simultaneously, we are focussing on drone surveillance in and around Vijayawada,” Mr. Rajashekar Babu said.
In 394 fatal road accidents, 421 people died, and in 972 non-fatal road accidents, 1,266 people were injured. CCTVs detected about 635 cases, and 685 drones were used for crowd management, festivals, and maintaining law and order.
“We have collected 1,973 new fingerprints through the Automated Finger Print Identification System, and 66 property and two bodily offence cases were detected by using fingerprints,” Mr. Rajashekar Babu explained.
