Delhi Capitals dominate Gujarat Giants in Women's Premier League, led by Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen's stellar performances.
Delhi Capitals (DC) moved to the top of the Women’s Premier League points table with a comfortable six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants (GG) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday.
DC (six points) recorded a third win in five outings, while GG (two points) stayed in bottom position.
After a disciplined bowling show restricted GG to 127 for nine, DC rode on good knocks from Shafali Verma (44, 27b, 5x4, 3x6) and Jess Jonassen (61 n.o., 32b, 9x4, 2x6) to romp home in 15.1 overs.
Shafali and Jonassen came together in the fourth over, after captain Meg Lanning lost her stumps to Kashvee Gautam.
With a healthy dose of strokeplay, Shafali and Jonassen kept DC well ahead of the curve. When Shafali departed to off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner, DC was left with 40 runs to get off 62 balls.
Jonassen kept the foot on the gas to complete the job.
