UP Warriorz defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a thrilling Super Over finish in the Women’s Premier League.
UP Warriorz edged out Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a dramatic Super Over finish in the Women’s Premier League at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.
With 18 runs needed in the final over of regulation play, UP Warriorz tailender Sophie Ecclestone hammered pacer Renuka Singh for two sixes and a four.
Ecclestone nearly pulled off the impossible all on her own, but settled for a single off the fifth ball.
Kranti Goud only needed to score one run off the final delivery, but a play and miss allowed RCB wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh to run up to the stumps and catch Ecclestone short of the crease.
In the Super Over, UP Warriorz managed eight runs. RCB batters Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh dropped the ball, scoring just four runs.
After being put in to bat, RCB rode on a 56-ball 90 from Ellyse Perry to finish on 180 for six.
The Australian, who made 81 in the previous match, moved past Meg Lanning as the highest run-scorer in WPL history. Perry became the first player to breach the 800-run mark in the tournament.
