Delhi Education Minister warns private schools against forcing students to buy materials from specific shops.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday said that strict action will be taken against private schools that are found to be forcing students to buy books, writing material, and uniforms from specified shops.
Mr. Sood said his department had received grievances from parents about the unfair practice of private schools compelling students to purchase books, guides, ties, etc., from certain vendors.
The Minister’s comments came two days after the Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a circular asking private schools in the national capital to clearly display the list of prescribed educational materials and other required items.
It also asked the schools to display the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least five vendors or shops in the vicinity.
“Students should be free to buy these materials from their preferred sources at fair market prices. This directive aims to prevent commercial exploitation and ensure fair competition,” the directive stated.
It added that legal action would be taken against the schools found violating the order.
