Union Minister Suresh Gopi warns officials against taking bribes, emphasizes importance of public service and growth of tourism sector.
Union Minister Suresh Gopi has warned that government officials who take bribes will “face severe consequences.”
He was speaking at the concluding session of the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association’s State Conference in Thrissur on Sunday (February 17, 2025).
He stressed that salaries are paid to officials to serve the people and that public representatives, including him, must be vigilant to ensure that public service is carried out without the acceptance of bribes.
Mr. Gopi also highlighted the significant growth of the country’s tourism sector. In 2023, 92 lakh foreign tourists visited India, contributing ₹2.5 lakh crore in foreign currency. He credited hotels and restaurants for playing a pivotal role in this achievement. He further said that the Central and the State governments will address the challenges faced by hotel owners concerning food safety and waste management regulations.
The session was chaired by the association’s State president G. Jayapal. Higher Education Minister R. Bindu inaugurated the organization’s charitable activities and presented excellency awards. Dr. Bindu assured that the State government will address the challenges faced by hotel owners in the areas of pollution and food safety.
