Tirunelveli Corporation cracks down on unauthorized hoardings after steel structure collapse at cinema hall. Bookings for violators warned.
After the towering steel support structures erected for putting up the cutout of an actor in a cinema hall here collapsed on Sunday, Corporation officials have launched a drive against unauthorised hoardings in Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai on Monday.
Even though no one was injured in the steel structure collapse, there was a huge uproar on social media condemning the Tirunelveli Corporation and the police for not taking action against those who were trying to install the soaring cutout of the actor on the premises of the cinema hall.
Following instructions from Corporation Commissioner N.O. Sukhaputra, the officials of the urban civic body swung into action to remove the unauthorised hoardings in all four zones of the Corporation and asked the cinema hall owners to remove the hoardings.
Led by the Assistant Commissioners, the corporation officials removed these structures along S.N. High Road, Nainarkulam Road, Old Pettai, Car Streets around Swami Nellaiappar Temple, Cheranmahadevi Road, Udaiyarpatti, Tiruchendur Road, Thiruvananthapuram High Road, Siddha Medical College Road, North High Ground Road, Palayamkottai bus stand, South Bypass Road, VST Mosque Junction, Netaji Road, new bus stand and Melapalayam Government Hospital.
The Commissioner has warned that anyone erecting unauthorised hoardings and flex banners without obtaining proper permission from the Corporation would be booked.
