The police said that one of the arrested men is an accused in the Vijaya Bank dacoity case registered in 2015 in Chandera police limits in Kasaragod district in Kerala.
Mangaluru city police arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to break into the Muthoot Finance outlet at Derlakatte, near here, in the early hours of March 30.
The arrested persons are M.G. Murali, 55, a resident of Uppadavodu, Idukki in Kerala; and Arshad, 30, a resident of Kanhangad in Kerala.
The Muthoot Finance outlet is located on the first floor of the building. The duo broke open the lock of a shutter of a shop on the ground floor. From the shop on the ground floor, the duo reached the first floor. While they were drilling a hole in the wall of the outlet, the alarm of the outlet got activated, alerting officials of the finance company as well as local residents.
Nearby residents closed the shutter of the shop and kept a vigil around the building. They called 112 Emergency Response Support System of the police.
On reaching the building, police arrested the two burglars. The police seized a drilling machine, screwdriver, and some other tools.
A case was registered against the duo in Konaje police station for offences punishable under Sections 305, 331 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita related to trespass and theft in sensitive locations.
Efforts are on to trace a third man who was allegedly involved in the incident.

Calling upon officials for effective surveillance to prevent such practices, Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Eshwar Khandre said that there were multiple incidents of domestic animals and other herbivores damaging their jaws and dying eventually due to hunger. He said there have been cases of elephant calves chewing the crude bombs and dying.
