NHAI increases toll fees for KIA and STRR in Bengaluru, impacting all road users and public transportation services.
Starting April 1, commuters travelling to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) or using the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) in Bengaluru will have to pay higher toll fees. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to revise the toll rates at multiple plazas, including Sadahalli on NH 7 (KIA road), as well as Hulikunte and Nalluru Devanahalli on NH 648 (STRR). This annual increase is tied to the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), a key economic indicator.
The toll revision will impact all categories of road users, including private vehicle owners, taxis, ride-hailing services, airport cabs and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses operating the Vayu Vajra service to the airport. The fare hike could lead to increased ticket prices if BMTC decides to pass on the additional cost to passengers.
Under the new tariff, cars, jeeps, vans, and other light motor vehicles passing through the Sadahalli toll plaza (22.12 km) will now be charged ₹120 for a one-way trip and ₹180 for a return journey within the same day. A monthly pass covering 50 single journeys will cost ₹3,970, compared to the current ₹3,835. Light commercial vehicles and minibuses will see their toll fees increase to ₹185 for a one-way trip and ₹275 for a return journey, with a monthly pass now costing ₹6,100, up from ₹5,890.
Heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses will also see a rise in charges. The revised fee at Sadahalli will be ₹370 for a one-way trip, ₹550 for a return journey, and ₹12,265 for a monthly pass, compared to the current ₹355, ₹535, and ₹11,845, respectively.
Those travelling along the 42-km stretch from Dobbspet to Doddaballapur via the STRR will have to pay ₹110 for a single journey, ₹165 for a return trip, and ₹3,615 for a monthly pass at the Hulikunte toll plaza. These rates are up from the existing ₹105, ₹155, and ₹3,490.
Similarly, motorists using the 34.15-km Doddaballapur bypass to Hoskote segment of the STRR will now be charged ₹85 for a one-way trip and ₹125 for a return journey at the Nalluru Devanahalli toll plaza, compared to the current ₹70 and ₹105.
The Devanahalli (Sadahalli) toll plaza, located near Kempegowda International Airport, registered its highest-ever toll revenue of ₹308.01 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year, as per data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
