Sri City donates ₹10 lakh for biodiversity conservation at Nelapattu bird sanctuary on World Wetlands Day.
As part of ‘World Wetlands Day’, Sri City contributed ₹10 lakh towards the biodiversity conservation of Nelapattu bird sanctuary.
Sri City Foundation director Nireesha Sannareddy formally handed over a cheque to C. Selvam, in-charge Conservator of Forest, Tirupati Wildlife Management Circle, at an awareness programme organised for students at Nelapattu here on Monday.
The donation was part of the ₹1 crore promised by Sri City during the recent Flamingo Festival towards conserving the local biodiversity, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Acknowledging the donation, Mr. Selvam said the amount would support the enhancement of infrastructure and visitor amenities at Nelapattu, a main habitat for migratory birds.
50 children from three schools in Sullurupeta and artists from Tirupati-based ‘Mana Samskriti Kalasamstha’ participated in the event, where essay writing and painting competitions were conducted for the students.
While the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) policy of allowing apartments to sell treated sewage water is a new alternative water source, the real challenge lies in the transportation of this water. Apartment complexes with surplus treated water are finding it difficult to sell it as tankers are not available, among other logistical reasons.
