Semmozhi Poonga works almost nearing completion in Coimbatore

Semmozhi Poonga in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore, nearing completion with botanical garden, sculptures, and conference hall.
The ongoing works for establishing a Semmozhi Poonga at Gandhipuram on a sprawling 45 acres land at an outlay of ₹167.25 crore is almost nearing completion.
In 2010, during the World Classical Tamil Conference held in Coimbatore, the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced setting up of Semmozhi Poonga in Coimbatore.
Accordingly, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone on June 7, 2024.. At present, the botanical garden, memorials, sculptures and battery-operated cars are being procured at ₹93.44 crore. A conference hall is coming up at an outlay of ₹25.56 crore, measuring 4830 sq.ft to accommodate 1,000 people.
About 75% of the works at the entry point are over while works on auditorium are over by 87% and 97% of the compound wall works have been completed.. The works for construction of toilets are 85% over, and the work on an groundwater tank works has been completed. Work on another groundwater tank and electricity works costing ₹19.40 crore and audio and video facilities at an outlay of ₹7.80 crore are also nearing completion, Corporation sources said.
The works for supplying water from the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant to water the plants at the Semmozhi Poonga is also nearing completion at ₹7.83 crore. The works for creation of the Seemozhi Vanam, Magarantha Vanam, Naktchathira Vanam, Nalam Tharum Vanam, and Narumana Vanam are nearing completion. 92% of the garden creation works are also over.
The 17,008 sq.ft parking area to accommodate 380 two-wheelers and 10 buses is nearing completion
Most probably, the entire construction works would be over in another three months, they added.
