Minister Satish Jarkiholi seeks better air connectivity for North Karnataka, urging upgrade of district airports over second Bengaluru airport.
Minister Satish Jarkiholi met Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi on Thursday seeking better air connectivity for North Karnataka.
These areas are backward and are lagging behind by many decades. He urged the Ministers to upgrade airports in North Karnataka, rather than choosing a second airport in Bengaluru.
It is true that demand for a second airport has arisen due to overcrowding at the international airport in Devanahalli in Bengaluru.
But there are several issues in Bengaluru like population growth and traffic congestion. Airports in the districts can be upgraded instead, he said.
The Minister also informed the Central Ministers that his department (Public Works) will provide the necessary cooperation to upgrade the airports in the districts, said a release.
