Belagavi ZP launches job card distribution campaign for disabled under MGNREGS, providing financial support and employment opportunities.
The Belagavi Zilla Panchayat will launch a special job card distribution campaign for eligible persons with disabilities in the district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The 15-day drive will run from April 1 to 15. The campaign has been launched with the aim of providing financial strength to the disabled. It will be rolled out through all gram panchayats in the district, ZP CEO Rahul Shinde said in a release.
As per the Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, 1995, persons with 40% disabilities are recognised as disabled. Those with disabilities are considered as a special category of vulnerable groups under the MGNREGS. Already, 10,800 persons with disabilities in Belagavi district have job cards. Out of these, 2,617 have got jobs under the the rural job scheme.
These cards are distinct from family job cards, which allow willing members to work for 100 days in a year. But those with disability cards can get 100 days work on their own, as separate individuals. They also get an exemption of 50 days work in the quantum of work allotted to them.
Those interested can contact the MGNREGS helpline number (8073109488) or the State helpline (8277506000).
