SWR General Manager Mukul Saran assured that the land acquisition process for construction of the new Belagavi-Kittur-Dharwad route will be completed in earnest as the work would soon be started by inviting tenders.
Jagadish Shettar, Lok Sabha member and former Chief Minister, met senior officers of South Western Railway zone in Hubballi on April 8 to review progress of various railway projects in Belagavi district of Karnataka.
He said that he had received several complaints that the design of the newly-constructed road-under-bridge near the level crossing at Sulebavi village (L. C. No. 79/A) is unscientific. “Some farmers have complained that they could not reach their land. There is need for a connecting road to help farmers,” he said.
SWR General Manager Mukul Saran promised to send a senior engineer to inspect the site, and send a report.
Mr. Shettar said that some home and shop-owners had complained that they were facing harassment from railway officers who were repeatedly sending notices about alleged encroachment of railway land near Ghataprabha railway station. He asked railway officials to verify the ownership of all of them and then issue notices to the owners of the buildings.
The GM assured the MP that he would look into the matter, and ensure that the residents are not inconvenienced.
The MP said it is necessary to conduct a preliminary survey for the construction of a new railway line from Lokapur-Ramadurg-Savadatti-Dharwad. He asked SWR to take steps to conduct the necessary survey and facilitate construction of the new railway line.
The GM informed the MP that he would obtain the necessary details, and to look into organising a new railway line survey in the coming days.
