Speaking at a review meeting in the Secretariat on December 30, Monday, she emphasised the coalition government’s commitment to equipping the police force with advanced training centres and facilities to combat the evolving trend in crimes.
Key initiatives include establishing facilities for elite units such as Greyhounds, Octopus, and cybersecurity organisations and completing land acquisition for the construction of permanent Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) buildings. The Minister highlighted the government’s resolve to provide modern resources for crime prevention and police welfare.
“Technology is reshaping criminal behaviour, and our police need state-of-the-art training and infrastructure to stay ahead. Our focus is to establish cutting-edge facilities to support their mission,” Ms. Anitha said.
She revealed plans to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in early January to secure funds and approvals for these initiatives.
Criticising the previous YSRCP government, Ms. Anitha pointed out their failure to secure Central funds and prioritise modernisation of the Police Department.
She announced the allocation of 76 acres at Agiripalli for Octopus training centre and 498 acres in Vizianagaram for a Greyhounds centre, along with interim arrangements in Anantapur and Visakhapatnam for police training.
