Minister George Kurian announces plans for IT hub near Kozhikode railway station, with commercial space and passenger amenities.
Minister of State for Fisheries, Dairying, Animal Husbandry, and Minority Affairs George Kurian has said that steps will be taken to develop an information technology (IT) hub on a plot next to the Kozhikode railway station.
He was addressing the media on Saturday (March 29, 2025) after inspecting the ongoing work at the station. Mr. Kurian said that the 27,100 sq. ft plot on the western side of the station would be developed as an IT hub. Companies had come forward with this demand. While the Railways would hand over the land, the selected company would be responsible for carrying out the construction. A total of 40,000 sq. ft had been allotted for commercial purposes. Passenger amenities would be provided there, he added.
The Minister said that a review of the development work would be conducted every three months. He expressed hope that the renovated railway station would be opened on June 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, M.K. Raghavan, MP, said there were not many trains from Shoranur to north Malabar after 3 p.m. He urged Mr. Kurian to remind the Minister for Railways about the demand for two MEMU trains on the route.
Senior BJP leader P.K. Krishnadas accompanied him. Later, Mr. Kurian visited the family of Ahalya Shankar, a senior BJP leader who passed away recently.
The Minister also attended the National Tribal Literature Festival at the Kerala Institute for Research, Training, and Development Studies for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
