Congress legislator predicts Chief Minister's involvement in fraud case, questions CPI(M) stance on CMRL pay-off scandal.
Congress legislator Mathew Kuzhalnadan has said that the day is not far when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself will be named as an accused in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) probe in the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) pay-off case. The SFIO had named his daughter Veena Thaikkandiyil as an accused in the case.
Talking to the mediapersons in Thodupuzha on Friday (April 4, 2025), Mr. Kuzhalnadan sought to know if the CPI(M) was still sticking to its earlier stance on the issue. “When the CMRL-Exalogic transaction issues emerged, the CPI(M) claimed it was a fair deal between two companies. Is the CPI(M) party prepared to reiterate its previous stance in light of the new development?” he stated.
“CMRL already clarified that it paid the money to Ms. Veena to protect the company from further threats. Also, Sasidharan Kartha, managing director of CMRL, is allegedly holding 100 acres of illegal land with the support of the State government,” said Mr. Kuzhalnadan.
The financial transactions between CMRL and Ms. Veena’s IT firm Exalogic were initially brought up by Mr. Kuzhalnadan.

Acts of terror are a stain on society, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. History has shown that terrorism and violence have never achieved anything meaningful for the causes they seek to promote, he says, and calls for firm action against those responsible for the heinous act at Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir.
