“I have instructed the police to strengthen the beat system. This morning also, I instructed the Bengaluru Police Commissioner the same. Our police are also working tirelessly every day to ensure that the people are safe, but in a big city like this, such incidents do happen,” he said.
BJP State president B. Y. Vijayendra said the Home Minister’s statement reflected the callous way in which he and the administration were acting regarding “rising crimes and women’s safety”.
He said such an attitude had led to “breakdown of law and order in the State” and demanded that the Chief Minister make a responsible statement on the law and order situation in the State.
The case pertains to a video footage from a CCTV camera going viral on social media. In the video, two women are seen walking home late at night through a narrow alleyway in BTM Layout.
A man stealthily approaches them from behind and molests one of them, and runs away when they scream for help.
The Suddaguntepalya police have registered a suo motu FIR and taken up a probe.
