AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday (November 27, 2024) said Chennai would not have been affected by waterlogging had the DMK regime completed the stormwater drain projects initiated by his government in the past.
Speaking to reporters at Ulundurpet, he said the previous AIADMK government had initiated steps to alleviate the problem of recurrent flooding by implementing stormwater drain work that extended for 1,240 km in Chennai. However, the DMK government, which came to power in 2021, had not completed the work though over 43 months had passed.
Accusing the DMK regime of being “administratively incompetent,” he said the government’s lethargic attitude had resulted in several areas remaining inundated following the rains.
Responding to a question, Mr. Palaniswami said the DMK government should have enacted a new legislation as directed by the Madras High Court to curb online gaming. Instead, the government had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, he said.
The recent incidents of crimes across the State only reflected the deterioration of law and order, he further said, adding that the State government must give a free hand to the police to ensure law enforcement.
