A total of 4,400 government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu will take part in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024, scheduled to be held on December 4.
The NAS 2024 is a large-scale assessment to obtain information about the learning achievements of schoolchildren. The survey conducts random sampling to select schools and students to prevent bias. Students of Class 3 are expected to answer 45 multiple choice questions (MCQs) designed until the Class 2 level, with weightage of 15 marks each for language, maths, and environmental science, in 90 minutes. The 2024 NAS survey will be conducted in 26 languages.
In Tamil Nadu, 5,055 grades which are Class 3, 6, and 9 will be writing the exam. The School Education Department has appointed 33 officers to monitor the progress of the exam. “In districts where Cyclone Fengal has hit, the District Collectors will take a call regarding the exam,” said sources in the department.
The exam will be conducted by field investigators who are presently pursuing their B.Ed and M.Ed, the sources added.
As many as 4,145 schools, 19,001 teachers, and 1,26,253 students from the State took part in the previous survey in 2021 (which was delayed by a year due to COVID-19).
