Over 100 vehicles burnt in Delhi impound lot fire, no compensation for damages, man charred to death in separate incident.
Over 100 vehicles that were seized by the Delhi Traffic Police were gutted in a fire that broke out in an impound lot in south Delhi’s Nehru Place on Thursday, the police said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an officer said, adding that a case has been registered in the matter.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the fire around 2 p.m., an officer said. “Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. It has been reported that some case properties have also been burnt”, the officer said.
Initially, it was believed that the fire had affected only 50 vehicles but investigation after the cooling process revealed that over 100 vehicles were burnt in the fire, the officer added.
No compensation for damages will be provided in cases of burnt vehicles and only insurance money can be claimed, if any, a senior police officer said.
A man was charred to death when a fire broke out inside a house in north-east Delhi’s Jafrabad on Thursday evening. A total of 3 fire tenders were rushed to the site, a DFS officer said. Operations to extinguish the fire are on, he added.

Acts of terror are a stain on society, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. History has shown that terrorism and violence have never achieved anything meaningful for the causes they seek to promote, he says, and calls for firm action against those responsible for the heinous act at Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir.
