Netaji Bose market traders’ appeal to Collector

Traders in Tirunelveli appeal to Collector for market opening, petitions submitted for various issues, assistance provided to differently-abled individuals.
The traders of Netaji Bose Daily Market in Tirunelveli Town has appealed to Collector R. Sukumar to take steps for opening the market at the earliest.
A group of traders submitted a petition on Monday seeking the early opening of the market and highlighting their problems. They said the market, which was rebuilt under the Corporation’s ‘Smart City Mission’ on an outlay of ₹10.97 crore with 75 shops, was yet to become operational as the Corporation had not created the facilities necessary for smooth functioning of the shops.
Moreover, the allocation of shops to 25 traders had been cancelled after they failed to pay the deposit for the shops before the deadline after winning the auction in their favour. Moreover, 20% of their deposit amount for participating in the auction had also been forfeited. They also wanted the banning of vegetables in any other place within 1 km radius from Netaji Bose market.
On behalf of Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, a petition was submitted to the Collector seeking the desilting of a well in Valluvar Street in Kakkan Nagar in ward 5 of Tirunelveli Corporation and use the water for the sanitary complex in this area.
Another petition submitted by TVK’s women’s wing president R. Nazima sought sufficient drinking water supply to Beedi Colony in ward 48 of Tirunelveli Corporation in Melapalayam.
A group of self-help group women from Karuppukatti village under A. Sattankulam village panchayat in Nanguneri taluk submitted a petition seeking regular supply of drinking water to their village with 300 families as there was no drinking water supply for the past 28 days.
Dr. Sukumar handed over ₹19.09 lakh-worth assistance including retrofitted scooters to nine differently-abled persons, €3 lakh each for three persons for starting readymade garment manufacturing units and ₹1 lakh to the family of one Karuppasamy of Munneerpallam who drowned in water in the Tamirabharani River.
