Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui faces legal complaint for alleged religious insensitivity and obscenity in OTT show Hafta Vasooli.
Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui’s OTT show Hafta Vasooli has come under scrutiny after a legal complaint was filed against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and promoting obscenity. Advocate Amita Sachdeva shared details of the complaint on social media, calling for an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act.
According to the complaint, Hafta Vasooli insults multiple religions, violates cultural values, and negatively influences viewers, particularly young audiences. Sachdeva claims the show promotes “vulgarity” and has a damaging impact on society. Screenshots of an email requesting police action under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353 were also shared, with the advocate stating that a physical copy of the complaint would be submitted soon.
“If no action is taken, I will approach the Court to ensure justice prevails,” Sachdeva wrote in her post.
Faruqui has yet to respond to the allegations. This is not the first time the comedian has faced legal trouble — he has previously been accused of making controversial remarks in his performances.
The controversy surrounding Hafta Vasooli follows a similar case involving podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, who faced backlash over comments made on India’s Got Latent. Several FIRs have been filed against him, Samay Raina, and other influencers for their remarks.
