Mumbai Police bans drones and flying devices to prevent sabotage attempts, effective April 4 to May 3.
Mumbai Police issued a prohibitory order, banning the flying of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, and hot air balloons for a month to prevent any sabotage attempt, officials said on Thursday (April 3, 2025). The order issued under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita would be effective from April 4 to May 3.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan issued the order, highlighting that no flying activities of drones, para-motors, hand gliders, or other flying devices shall be allowed in the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate. The order also said that terrorists and anti-national elements might use these flying devices to carry out attacks and target VVIPs, damaging public property and disrupting law and order.
The rule excluded Mumbai police aerial surveillance but applied to users who had special permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations). According to the order, if any person failed to abide by these rules, they would be punished under Section 223 (Disobey the order) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
