24-year-old woman and newborn die after childbirth at Vellore hospital, sparking investigation by authorities.

A 24-year-old woman from Arani and her newborn baby died on Tuesday, hours after she gave birth at the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore.
The police identified the mother as K. Anitha, a native of Irumbedu village near Arani in Tiruvannamalai. Her husband S. Koteeswaran, 26, is a police constable at Special Battalion with Avadi Police Commissionerate near Chennai.
Anitha arrived at her mother’s house in Vellore a week ago. She was admitted to the government hospital on December 12, where she was taken care of by her mother and husband.
On Tuesday morning (December 17), Anitha complained of labour pain. Her relatives immediately alerted the duty doctors and nurses.
Hospital authorities said that Anitha had found the delivery extremely painful. On her family’s request, a Cesarean operation was conducted but the baby boy died. The incident took place around 5.30 a.m.
Anitha was later shifted to the maternity ward where she died around 9.30 a.m. The family members argued with hospital authorities over the cause of death.
