India vs Australia Day 5 Gabba Test: India's Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah avoid follow-on against Australia with gritty batting on a rainy day.
India lost the wicket of Akash Deep, who along with Jaspit Bumrah helped avoid follow-on. Akash was, stumped off Travis Head as India were all out for 260 and trailing by 185 runs during the final day of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on Wednsday (December 18, 2024).
Akash’s 31 included two fours and a six.
With lightning and thunderstorm around Gabba, the match was again delayed and the Australian openers McSweeney and Khawaja need to wait to open their second innings.
Meanwhile, the weathermen have predicted heavy rains on Wednesday, which may eventually bail out India from a defeat. “High chance of showers, most likely in the late morning and afternoon,” said Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology. “The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe”, it said. Earlier on Tuesday, Needing 246 to avoid the ignominy of batting again, the visitors were struggling at 213 for nine. While the rest were losing their nerve, Bumrah and Akash stayed calm. Singles were stolen, gaps were milked, the odd four was hit and as Pat Cummins kept swapping between bouncers and deliveries hovering around off-stump, India’s number 10 and 11 batter refused to budge.
