The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Budget for 2025-26 has projected a revenue of ₹252.60 crore from property tax collection, an essential source of revenue for the cash-strapped corporation.
The Budget also anticipates ₹58.43 crore by way of a grant from the State Finance Commission and an additional ₹65.65 crore for the development of Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja, and Chamaraja Assembly segments coming under its jurisdiction.
Corporation Administrative Officer D.S. Ramesh presented the Budget here on Thursday in the absence of an elected council.
The property tax for 2024-25 was projected at ₹204.80 crore but the MCC, by the end of December 2024, collected ₹211.59 crore. Property tax is one of the important sources of revenue for the corporation to provide basic amenities and take up civic works in the city.
Another significant source of revenue is water tax. Against the projected collection of ₹79.85 crore, the authorities collected ₹60.70 crore by the end of December 2024. For the coming financial year, the authorities expect the collection to be ₹98.51 crore.
Among its major expenditure is salary or wages to the pourakarmikas, and this has been pegged at ₹35.03 crore for 2025-26.
Electricity charges for street lights and ensuring drinking water supply cost the MCC a huge sum and the local body anticipates ₹125.21 crore by way of a grant from the State government to fulfil its obligations.
