55-year-old history-sheeter brutally murdered by rivals near Sadyapur village, sparking revenge attacks and police investigation.
In what is suspected to be a case of revenge, a 55-year-old history-sheeter was brutally murdered by his rivals near Sadyapur village on Bidar-Srirangapatna State Highway in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Sunday.
The murdered history sheeter was identified as Mapanna Bheemappa Badiger, a native of Madriki village in Shahapur taluk.
The crime happened when Mapanna and a 52-year-old Ali Sab, also a native of Madriki village who was accompanying him, were returning to the village from Bheemarayanagudi on a motorcycle after getting a haircut and purchasing some vegetables, police sources said.
Both Mapanna and Ali Sab, who was riding the motorcycle, were intercepted by Mapanna’s rivals near Sadyapur village. Mapanna was attacked with sharp-edged weapons that killed him on the spot, while Ali Sab managed to escape from the scene and hid in the village.
After coming to know of the murder, several followers and the surviving sons of Mapanna attacked Ali Sab with a knife, suspecting his hand in the crime.
Due to the knife attack, Ali Sab suffered serious injuries and died on his way to hospital, the sources added.
Throwing light on the crime, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, who rushed to the spot, told The Hindu that Hussaini, a history sheeter who made a failed attempt to kill Mapanna in 2014, is suspected to be involved in the murder of Mapanna.

Model primary schools should not undermine existing institutions, caution UTF leaders. Calling for due diligence while introducing reforms, they say that upper primary schools, with a strength of above 60, should either be upgraded into high schools or be allowed to continue in their present form. Inordinate delay in payment of dues to employees and teachers a cause for concern, they say.
