The 26-year-old was captured in Pennsylvania following a massive manhunt.
Luigi Mangione has been indicted on murder charges in the slaying earlier this month of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of murder in the second degree, with one count of murder as an act of terrorism, for the “brazen, targeted and premeditated shooting of Brian Thompson,” Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg said at a press conference.
The first-degree murder charge and second-degree murder charge as an act of terrorism carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The maximum penalty for the other second-degree murder charge is 25 years to life in prison.
