The "Real Time" host said some of his Republican fans "keep asking" why he doesn't join the GOP.
Bill Maher has a simple answer as to why he won’t join the Republican Party.
The “Real Time” host delivered a damning monologue on Friday addressing some of his Republican fans who apparently keep asking why Maher, who has frequently criticized the Democratic party over the years for various policies and decisions, won’t just “go all the way” and “join” the right-wing.
“To those on the right who keep asking me, ‘Bill, you’re so good at roasting the woke nonsense-peddlers, why don’t you go all the way and join us?’” Maher said on the show. “Uh, let me give you the short answer: because I don’t want to live in North Korea.”
“Kim Jong Un has state stenographers who follow him everywhere and scribble his genius ideas into their notebooks and applaud,” he continued. “Well, Republicans, that’s you now.”
The Democratic pundit gave various examples of what he views as similar idolatry shown by the right-wing towards President Donald Trump, citing recent legislation proposing that Dulles International Airport be renamed in his honor or that Trump be added to Mount Rushmore.
