After a group of Shiv Sena leaders and workers indulged in vandalism at a Mumbai hotel over a joke cracked by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Mumbai Police on Monday (March 24, 2025) arrested a bunch of Shiv Sainiks and gave notices to two youth leaders who had instigated them.
Kunal Sarmalkar, a Shiv Sena leader who was taken into custody in the early hours on Monday (March 24, 2025), along with Sena social media in-charge Rahool Kanal, told The Hindu, “Last night, we had gone to the hotel where the shoot (of Kunal Kamra’s stand-up comedy show) had taken place Vandalism that took place last night. Thereafter, we were taken to the police station at around 3.30 a.m. today. The police have given a notice to Rahool Kanal and me. The others have been placed under arrest and will be produced in court today. We have been asked to cooperate with the probe and to remain present at the police station whenever the police summon us. We will now seek bail in the matter.”
A separate FIR has also been filed against the comedian for remarks on Eknath Shinde based on a complaint made by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
An FIR has been registered at the Khar police station under several sections of BNS including sections 132, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 324 of the BNS.
