IMD predicts heavy summer rain in Kerala till April 6, with yellow alerts issued for multiple districts.
Summer rain appears to be gaining traction in Kerala with moist-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal entering the State.
According to a weather bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (April 3), an upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over the southeast Arabian Sea and the neighbourhood. A trough also runs from the cyclonic circulation to south Kerala.
Under the influence of these systems and the confluence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels, heavy rain is likely at isolated places across Kerala till April 6 (Sunday).
A yellow alert has been issued for six districts on Thursday and five districts on Friday, warning of isolated heavy rains. The districts that have been put on yellow alert on Friday include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki.
Meanwhile, rain lashed various places in Kerala on Wednesday, with Punalur in Kollam and Myladumpara in Idukki recording the highest rain of 40 mm each, followed by Piravam and Perumbavur in Ernakulam, Kunnathanam in Pathanamthitta and Bayar in Kasaragod with 20 mm each.
Kerala has also received 88% excess summer rain during the current summer season.
