The greatness of Prof. M.M. Kalburgi was not just the fact that he was a good researcher and creative writer but because of his humanitarian concern, scholar Go. Ru. Channabasappa said.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 89th birth anniversary of Kalburgi and presenting the annual national award instituted in his memory. The event was organised by Dr. M.M. Kalburgi National Memorial Foundation.
Recalling Kalburgi’s profific work in the field of research, Mr. Channabasappa said that Kalburgi was of the opinion that if there was no commitment in the work one did, life would be like incoherent music. “He always ensured that there was no hindrance in his study, music and research,” he said.
Mr. Channabasappa said that when it came to his work, Kalburgi almost forgot his hunger and sleep. “Difficulties and deficiencies never became a hurdle for his work. The work comprehensive refers to something complete and united and the word can be used to describe the personality of Kalburgi,” he said.
Mr. Channabasappa emphasised the need for bringing out comprehensive volumes of Kalburgi’s works. Also, steps should be taken to sensistise the students on the voluminous research he did and the methodology he followed. Throughout his life, Kalburgi made honest efforts to explain the vastness and methodology of research, he said.
Responding to the honour, recipient of Dr M.M. Kalburgi Memorial Award Sharanabasappa Mededar said he would dedicate more time to bring out works on vachanas of the 12th century ‘sharanas’.
