The Andhra Pradesh government will set up a Narcotics Police Station with its headquarters in Amaravati. Besides, District Narcotics Control Cells (DNCC) will be established in all 26 districts, a Government Order issued on November 28 (Thursday) said.

Officers of Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) will take steps to prevent the cultivation, production, smuggling, sale and peddling, drug trafficking and consumption of narcotic drugs in Andhra Pradesh.
The government issued order no. 145 in this regard. Five fast-track courts would be set up in Guntur, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Rajamahendravaram and the proposals would be sent to the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The ‘Eagle’ headquarters in Amaravati will have the investigation monitoring, legal, documentation, training, awareness, administrative and logistics, technical and State Task Force wings.
The ‘Eagle’ will initiate stringent enforcement measures, follow robust investigation methods, take legal action to check the network of the ganja traffickers and take steps to protect the public health, the G.O. said.
Head of the ‘Eagle’ will act as the Head of Secretariat for Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD), supervise and guide the Narcotics Police Station and the DNCCs.
The Commissioners of Police and the Superintendents of Police of the districts and the Superintendents of Railway Police (SRPs) will support the ‘Eagle’ in registration and probing of the narcotics-related cases. The ‘Eagle’ can register and investigate the cases under the NDPS Act, 1985.
