Telangana DCA seizes ₹2 crore worth of illegally manufactured drugs from Akron Formulations India Private Limited in Sangareddy
Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized illegally manufactured drugs worth ₹2 crore during a raid on Akron Formulations India Private Limited located in Sangareddy District, on Tuesday (December 31, 2024).
Acting on credible information, DCA officials discovered that the facility was engaged in unauthorised production of pharmaceutical products without a valid drug manufacturing license.
Among the confiscated items were large quantities of ointments and creams, including Asperflex Cream (Topical Analgesic), Medpura (Zinc Oxide 20% Ointment), and Ammonium Lactate 12% Lotion and Cream. These products, manufactured for Akron Pharma, Inc. in Fairfield, New Jersey, were found in significant volumes, with some lot details revealing thousands of units ready for distribution.
Asperflex Cream, Lot No.: MMC2401A, Expiry: October 2026 (5064 x 85 gm tubes), Medpura (Zinc Oxide 20%), Lot Nos.: Z002402A and Z002402B, Expiry: October 2026 (7176 x 56.7 gm and 2592 x 85 gm tubes), Ammonium Lactate 12% Lotion and Cream, Expiry: October 2026 (several lots totaling over 16 x 140 gm jars and bottles of varying sizes).
Officials have sent samples of the seized drugs for analysis and have initiated further investigations. Legal action is expected against those involved in the unlicensed operations.
The DCA highlighted that manufacturing drugs without a valid license violates the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and carries penalties, including imprisonment of up to five years. Such products, often failing to meet quality standards, pose serious risks to public health.
