Helmet rule made mandatory for two-wheeler riders in Puducherry from January 12, with a massive awareness rally planned on January 11.
The government has decided to make the wearing of helmet compulsory for two-wheeler riders in Puducherry from January 12, Home Minister A. Namassivayam has said.
“We will be taking out a massive helmet awareness rally in Puducherry on January 11. The Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister will be participating in the awareness rally. From January 12, the helmet rule for two-wheeler riders will be made mandatory. People will have to follow the instructions of the police on wearing the helmet as there is a clear direction from the court,” the Home Minister told presspersons after holding a high-level review meeting at the Police Headquarters.
Earlier, the Police Department was planning to make helmet compulsory from January 1 in Puducherry.
The department had even advertised its decision to impose the rule from January 1.
The Minister further said that around 2,000 police personnel would be deployed to maintain the law and order situation during New Year celebrations.
The celebrations on Beach Road will be allowed till midnight, he said.
