Vizianagaram SP plans action to reduce road accidents, focusing on speeding, drunk driving, and helmet usage awareness.
Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal on Sunday (December 29, 2024) said that an action plan was being prepared to reduce the number of road accidents significantly in Vizianagaram district. He said that an awareness camp would also be conducted to explain the consequences of overspeeding, drunken driving, driving without a seat belt and helmet and others.
As many as 10 persons were killed in three weeks near Polipalli of Bhogapuram mandal in Vizianagaram district. It was observed that high speed and unskilled driving were the reasons for the road accidents in Polipalli, which is located on the Srikakulam-Visakhapatnam national highway. Against this background, Mr.Jindal held a meeting with senior officials of Bhogapuram and other areas to chalk out an action plan to stop road accidents on the route.
Speaking to The Hindu here, he said that the department could reduce the incidence of road accidents on the Raipur-Visakhapatnam highway (NH-26) with a series of steps such as putting additional sign boards and stoppers. “We are hopeful that new measures would minimise road accidents on National Highway No-16. We will speak to the National Highway Authority of India officials since their role is also important in taking up remedial measures,” said Mr.Jindal.
He asked all the two-wheeler drivers to wear helmets since many people were dying due to head injuries when they meet with road accidents. “We are holding awareness programmes in all areas to create awareness on helmet usage and their benefits. Drunken drive tests are being conducted in all routes since driving vehicles after consumption of alcohol would pose a threat lives of others too.”
