Sankranti festival in Hyderabad sees injuries from manja (string used to fly kites), with eight cases treated at Osmania General Hospital.
While Sankranti was celebrated with much enthusiasm across Hyderabad, some people experienced unfortunate incidents as they got injured by manja (thread or string used to fly kites). Reports from a Telangana government hospital highlighted a series of minor injuries caused by the manja.
At Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, eight individuals sought medical attention in the Outpatient (OP) ward due to manja-related injuries. “All eight cases presented with minor injuries and were treated as outpatients. Among them, two were below 18 years of age, while the remaining six were aged between 18 and 64 years,” said Dr Rakesh Sahay, the hospital superintendent.
Dr. Sahay further mentioned that the patients sustained injuries primarily on their limbs, with one case involving a nose injury and another a minor head injury. “None of these injuries were severe enough to require hospitalisation,” he stated.
At Gandhi Hospital, no cases of manja-related injuries were reported, either in the inpatient or outpatient departments. “We have been closely monitoring any patients with such injuries. However, so far, none have come to us,” said Dr. Raj Kumari, superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.
